A litte manifesto for the new year~

 7/1/2026

Hello 2026!!! A new year begins!

Looking back at 2025, I think I've knitted a lot more than I've crocheted. I started with making the Sophie Hood in the beginning of the year, started a sweater I never finished, then stopped for awhile before I started on a Sophie Scarf using yarn reclaimed from a thrifted cashmere sweater. I went home in late November and since then I've made a bonnet, a triangle scarf and three Rybka Pouch (with a fourth one in the works). A part of me wish I made a lot more things the past year but, regardless, I'm proud of all the things I've made the past year ( ◡̀_◡́)ᕤ

I wish to knit a lot more in 2026. I wish for it to take up more space in my life, in a loving and generative way. Maybe that could look like making space for other knitters/fibre craft practitioners, or simply creating more knitted pieces, or teaching someone how to knit. Whatever it might be I hope I remain committed to it. I'm reading bell hooks' All About Love and one part that continue to ring in my mind is how love is a mixture of a handful of acts including commitment. I'd like to love knitting a lot more this year therefore I must commit myself to it more than I've ever before.

If we consider love as an action and not a feeling, then fibre crafts make love feel so tangible and real. If we consider love as "the will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth" then the things I've made the past year are evidence of an everyday practice of love, and what is art if not that. Even if I don't consider them works of art, they're the building blocks of my practice and I must appreciate it as part of the process and trust it will lead me somewhere.

I return to love and I begin again with love
